It’s not easy being an outsider from another world in Alien Squatter. Still, maybe you can make some friends, find a pet, or discover some way to survive.
Earth isn’t exactly a nice place, and it’s even worse in the imagined future of this game. For whatever reason, aliens have decided to try living on Earth as the humans die out. Given how kind humans can be to each other, I guess it makes sense to only visit here once humans are on the ropes. Still, all of the inequality, poverty, hunger, and cruelty of humans seems to have rubbed off on our new roommates, so don’t expect much in the way of help while you;re here.
That’s not to say you don’t have a chance. You can choose from a few different alien types to gain access to handy survival abilities (like psychic powers), using those to help yourself. You can also find a variety of alien pets who not only provide friendship, but also some further help in finding food. There are also many friends (or romantic partners) you can get closer to, giving you a bit of an edge in these trying times. Or at least someone to complain to.
Beyond those things, you can get by through picking up discarded food on the street, sell salvaged parts, steal from people, gamble, fight, or sell your organs to shady doctors. There is a lot you can do in this bleak world, although much of it offers a pretty grim look at the realities of survival in a world that doesn’t care about you. At least you can make a few friends to make the days feel lighter. Alien Squatter might make this all look cute, but its exploration of its themes is unflinching and powerful.
Alien Squatter is available now on Steam.
