A simple concept for a mobile game (but with lovely visuals and relaxing audio), Around Mars sees you attempting to get moons within the atmosphere around the planet Mars.
This sounds pretty simple, but the game comes with many challenges. For a start, all of your moons appear at the bottom of the screen, and you must flick them, softly, into the atmosphere around the planet. The atmosphere is shown by some lines around planets, which phase in and out to give you a hint of where you aim for.
If you fling your moon too hard, it will fly off the screen or often hit Mars. This isn’t your aim, so you’ll need to be gentle and pick a good angle. Soon, you’ll have to avoid the multiple moons that you’ve placed into the atmosphere, as colliding with another moon will destroy them both. Other objects also start to appear, as well as smaller moons and planets with their own atmosphere. You’ll need to avoid the other objects in the atmosphere and take into consideration the path that your moons will take around the other atmospheres that you find.
Successfully flinging all of your moons into the atmosphere will result in three stars, though I was rarely able to get all of them in and often passed with one or two stars. At times, if your toss is soft enough, your moon might bounce off of Mars and stay alive, which is a good feature if you are lucky. I found the best strategy was to pick a time to fling the majority of my moons out, then wait a bit as everyone got settled before flinging the rest here and there.
Around Mars is available now for Android devices.
