Hellcouch sees you getting up and sitting down on a physical couch, changing seating positions as you receive demonic commands.
A lot of things fall within the cushions of your couch, but it seems as like a demon fell into this one! At GDC, I got the chance to play Hellcouch, a game made from an actual couch. To play this game, you need to sit on the cushions and stand up when instructed by the lights on the floor beneath you.
The demon explains that now that you have sat down, you need to perform the butt ritual before you will be allowed to leave this furniture. When the floor by your feet is blue, you must stand up, and when it’s red, you must sit down. You aren’t the only one attempting this ritual – this couch seats three, so two other people need to play along with you.
The demon speaks quickly and the lights change as fast as you can all preform what is lit up in front of you, speeding up as you continue to sit and pop up from the couch. Once you and your friends have completed the ritual, a fog of smoke comes out of the couch, and the demon explains your fate…
Hellcouch is an unusual game, but one well worth playing. The narration from the demo is spot on, adding a lot of dimension to a game that’s played with a large piece of furniture.
You can find more information on Hellcouch on the website of one of the developers.
