Horror game Dead Dreams takes you on a journey through the memories of a group of developers who survived a tragedy. It’s kinda looking like those who died were the lucky ones.
I have no idea what sort of event sets off this kind of a mess for a group of game developers. An MMO launch? Putting your game on the wrong digital storefront? Being nice to people? Anyway, whatever they’ve done, they’ve awoken some truly disturbing pixelated beings who are just itching to chase you through the gloom of a twisted home. Should be a good time for everyone when they’re already exhausted from crunch.
Your job is, naturally, trying to help this gang of developers avoid the myriad things that are stalking them while trying to find some answers as to what happened in this lovely place. If you can find enough clues and work your way through the dangerous territory, you might get a few of these developers out alive. The story is quite tangled, with the monsters hiding a great deal of the narrative within their form and actions, so you’ll want to study your pursuers as best you can to get the full picture.
Dead Dreams aims to continually frighten you by always having some sinister creature nearby, tasking you with fleeing it while also letting the meanings in its form wash over you. It’s a heady mixture as you give in to your revulsion while curiosity pulls you closer and closer to these things, making for some moments of conflicting emotion as you rush through the blackened halls.
Dead Dreams is available now on Steam.
