ROMPE! Is a challenging platformer where things crumble when you make contact with them, forcing you to quickly move forward and never turn back.
This adorable platformer, which seems to be made for both mobile and PC, has you playing a monster who’s just trying to get consumed by a bunny rabbit. This does sound strange, but stick with me. As you move across the level, all of the blocks that touch you will disappear in a few seconds, meaning that you need to move quickly.
Sometimes, you’ll actually need to remove blocks to move on, sliding down them and hoping to jump through the gap. At other times, enemies and spiked creatures appear, and instead of breaking when they are touched, they break you. You have to avoid dangers and falling off the screen, all while making it to the end.
Jumping is your main way of movement. The longer you press the jump key, the higher you jump, and if you press it again, your character will take in a big breath and glide forward. This becomes the key in surviving, as gliding can give you much needed time and distance within the game.
ROMPE! is currently in an alpha state with a 19 playable levels. I was able to speak to the developer during the Big Indie Pitch @ GDC, and they talked about adding in a timer so you can see how fast you complete a level, as well a counter for the number of blocks you destroyed. I feel some sort of scoring system would add to the game, but the basics are already there.
ROMPE! is available in an alpha state on Itch.io.
