Nobunaga’s Shadow is a Japanese-inspired RPG where you play a spy, trying to find his way to the most powerful warlord of Feudal Japan.
In a time filled with bandits, war, and giant kingdoms, you are a spy looking to find Oda Nobunaga – a very powerful warlord. You have journeyed quite far, making it to the land around Nobunaga’s castle, but there is much to do before you will be allowed inside its walls. Might as well make this town your own through getting to know the locals, doing odd jobs, and maybe even purchasing a house.
Money might be a big thing on your mind, as someone without a job. You’re not the type to work on a farm, so you are forced to check out the world, fighting off wolves and bears to then sell their coats. Various townsfolk will ask for favors – specific items or to help with problems, which you can then gain gold and experience from. You are also able to level up and gain more health and skills, which in turn help you fight more.
There is a lot going on in this world, but dying is not an option. Instead, you need to rest up so that you can keep your health. You are able to either sleep until the sun goes down or until the next day. Some events only happen at a specific time of day, so make sure that you explore both times of day if you want to see all of the interesting characters, as well as the creatures and bandits to fight.
Nobunaga’s Shadow has many endings depending on what choices you make, so think before you take action. You can also just invest in a house and live your days free of your duties, work for whomever sent you, or stay true to your clan. It’s all up to you.
Ultimately, Nobuaga’s Shadow is a really well written, fun game that gives you a lot of freedom to do whatever you want.
Nobunaga’s Shadow is available on Steam.
