Close is a beautiful exploration game where you follow a fox around, seeing where in the world it would go.
You are wrapped up warm in your winter clothes. The snow falls peacefully around you, covering the world in a blanket of white. There doesn’t seem to be much else around you in this shimmering sea of snow, until suddenly, you find footprints.
These prints belong to a young fox on some sort of journey of their own. You can follow this fox, seeing where it goes and how it explores. You can spend time alone, exploring, or be accompanied by this animal, slowly walking the same path as you. There isn’t a set goal or anything to achieve in Close; instead you are meant to experience the game and interact with whatever you come in contact with.
Finding various objects and characters around the map and interacting with them will help the fox understand the world and change its plans and abilities to explore. You don’t directly control the game – you are simply helping the fox without fully knowing the fox’s goals or what anything means to them. You are meant to take the time to reflect on being a side character – someone without full knowledge or control over the game.
I got the chance to play Close at EGX 2018 where I explored the gorgeous world and followed that little fox around. Close is super-relaxing and quite nice to play through.
Close doesn’t have a set release date, but you can find a bunch of information over on its website.
