You don’t have a whole lot of time to get these orbs to their homes before they blow you up, so best get used to doing things fast in Forgotten Fragments.
You’ve woken up in this strange place with no real memory on how you got here or what you are doing. Thankfully, a nice old lady who has been stuck down here for ages tells you that you must gather and collect the Forgotten Fragments, as they will help you get out of this place.
Playing as Enid, you will be running around a beautiful, pixel art world trying to get orbs into different catchers before they explode. Each level has a counter to tell you how many times you died, and with such a short time to use the orbs once they are picked up, Forgotten Fragments is a really challenging and intense game.
Aiming and throwing the orbs becomes something you learn to do quickly, and soon after, the game adds buttons that need you to throw the orb into as you cannot reach them. Boxes start appearing to make things more challenging as you continue to figure out how to get through these bite-sized levels. Forgotten Fragments has a big “one more go” feel in levels, often egging you on as you were so close to finishing it, which is very good for a puzzle platformer.
The levels in Forgotten Fragment are handcrafted, giving you some pretty interesting challenges to take on. When you grab one of the several orbs often found in a level, a bar appears at the bottom of the screen and quickly starts depleting. You will need to get the orb in its place before the timer runs out, but often there are a few different points to choose from. Quick decision-making happens a lot in this game, and soon you will find that you are unable to just place them into their capture points, and instead can take some time to aim and throw these orbs.
As you continue through the game, more areas open up, secret places can be found, and hopefully you get enough fragments to their homes to understand why you are here. I enjoyed my time with Forgotten Fragments, and look forward to the game’s full release, to see what’s there. It’s worth mentioning that the game also has a local co-op mode in case you want to play with your friend.
Forgotten Fragments is currently in development, but in the meantime, you can add it to your Steam Wishlist.
