Goya’s Inferno is an intense shoot ‘em up which contains a bunch of different characters that all work in different ways, all inspired by Goya’s paintings.
You can select different witches to take on evil creatures that came from your nightmares, trying to master the witches’ play type and use it to your advantage. These different witches were what I found to be most interesting, as they are completely, starkly different from each other and have unique special powers. Some shoot more, others move at a slower pace, some have better special powers, and others are better during the long haul of just moving around.
One witch’s special power freezes an area of enemies for a short amount of time so that you can one-shot them, while another witch can give you two secondary floating skulls to shoot with you for a small amount of time. It really depends on how you want to play and who you like the best.
This shmup reminds me more of a bullet hell, where the challenge is dodging hundreds of bullets coming from these evil creatures at the other side of the screen. There are also boss fights to defeat between the massive waves of enemies, as well as a few different difficulties to choose from if you’d like more of a challenge. I got the chance to playGoya’s Inferno at the Valencia Game Summit, finding it to be a fun bullet hell/shoot ‘em up that’s worth playing if you are interested in getting blasted at by menacing beings from artwork.
