Through technology, we have a window into everyone’s lives. Their personal information on their phones, computers, and on cameras within the area. Quickly, you find just how invasive all of that can be in IO Interloper.
I got the chance to check out IO Interloper at the Game Fest 2019. Their booth was quite interesting, complete with secret cameras and a very well made demo. On a desktop interface, you are given your mission of infiltrating some sort of office building and stealing company secrets. This mission comes from a chat interface, just giving you a phone number. With this phone number and a general goal list on a notepad file, you start using your terminal to find as much information as you can.
Soon, you can use the third eye app on some guard’s phone to see him typing away on his computer while looking through his phone’s messages. Following clues within texts and emails, you can eventually gain access to terminals and cameras within a home. You can also surround the home with drones which you can use for security or manually control to get a clearer look in the house. Your goal is to find the passwords for terminals within the home while learning more about the target. This does take some time and deduction, but is a worthwhile experience.
IO Interloper is a very polished game that really makes technology feel sort of… creepy.
