Scare’s Repairs aims to capture what it feels like to fix plumbing while ghouls moan behind you. Even haunted houses need repairs when the toilet’s broken, right?
You’ve got a list of things to fix in a creepy old house. It’s relatively short, so surely you should be able to get it done in a few minutes. Especially since you can fix everything you want by hitting it with a hammer. That’s pretty much how you do everything in this game. Lights off? Hit it with a hammer. Door’s closed? Hit it with a hammer. It’s a solid solution, although I think you’ll just end up making more repair work for yourself if you keep smacking things.
The trouble with doing repairs in a haunted house is that the resident ghosts aren’t necessarily thankful for what you’re doing. They tend to show up to scare you at the most inopportune times. Still, I guess they’re just naturally scary, so maybe it’s unfair to say that they’re ungrateful or that they’re doing it on purpose. Maybe I was just freaking out because I let myself get too worked up, and they’re honestly being quite sweet about things. I’d be pretty happy to have the toilet working in a place if I had to spend the rest of eternity haunting it.
Scare’s Repairs is a short, goofy, but effective horror game that has some good frights baked into it. Also, doing everything with a hammer is just the kind of wonderful silliness I love about video games.
