We wake up in a creepy mansion filled with creepier mechanical dolls (and giant monster babies?!) in this week’s IG+ First Look at Alisa.
We’re not super sure who dressed Elite Royal Agent Alisa up in a Sexy Alice in Wonderland costume, but they have a penchant for building murderous clockwork dolls and kidnapping agents, apparently. Now, you and you clunky heels need to get yourself out of here without being slapped to death by these clacking, cackling machines.
Best of luck with that, as the game is heavily inspired by Resident Evil not only in looks and controls, but also in challenge. Bullets are scarce, and the game is filled with many persistent, bloodthirsty machines (the crawling ones are especially UGH). You also need to be careful with your aim, as the demo doesn’t help guide your shots for you. Which means letting these creatures get frighteningly close before you pull the trigger.
The challenging atmosphere works well with the eerie locale, creating a good sense of unease. This gets a bit broken by having a hand puppet act as a merchant, but if you like a little ridiculousness in your horror (and are just plain happy you can buy bullets to give yourself a bit of an edge), then it’s a welcome addition. Still, the dizzying camera angles, unsettling creatures, and surreal feel to the demo make Alisa seem like a promising future horror game.
Which we would have said in the video had our recording not crashed right at the end. Yay technology!
Alisa is currently in development, but in the meantime, a demo is available on itch.io.
