HyperParasite has us helping a goopy alien find a body so that it can cause a ton of trouble for everyone in this IG+ First Look.
You’re cast as a hostile ooze, one that aims to capture the president’s body to launch missile mayhem at the whole planet. Kind of a nasty thing to be helping out, but that’s VIDEO GAMES, BABY. Fortunately for the human race, we’re a bit fragile outside of a human host, making us quite easy to dispatch. Seriously. The local papergirl killed me, after all. Although that I’m saying she isn’t tough, as I possessed her and used her to kill a few dozen folks armed with shotguns. Still, you want to occupy a warm body as much as possible.
These frames offer some good variety in attack spreads. The newsgal flings papers in a cone, some officers carried guns and shotguns, and another fighter would ram people with a shopping cart (my personal favorite). The game would periodically fling someone you couldn’t possess into the mix to keep you from escaping a battle too easily, so you’re encouraged to grab and keep bodies as best you can. This made for some ever-evolving tactics, which made for some tense showdowns in the grim city streets.
HyperParasite seems pretty sharp at a first glance, with some fun power-up mechanics and the ability to unlock more interesting people to possess along the way. It doesn’t take long to get challenging, so expect some twin-stick shooting fun that should keep you busy for a while. Although I don’t exactly want you to win this one. I’m a human and kind of want to not get nuked. I don’t think that’s too unreasonable a request, right?
HyperParasite is available now on the Nintendo Switch, PS4, Xbox One, and Steam.
