We aim to blast a moon’s worth of wriggling flesh and errant reproductive organs in this week’s IGP First Look at A Robot Named Fight!. Which isn’t as gross as it sounds. But it’s still kinda gross.
The robots were having a pretty swell few millennia of peace, but then came a moon-sized pile of fleshy goo filled with teeth and naughty bits. I’m totally serious. Luckily, I didn’t have to tangle with too many errant genitals throughout my adventure, but ended up blasting more than my fair share of wet, wiggly, sloppy things. The whole world quivers in a stomach-churning way (although not so bad that it will likely make too many people queasy).
If you dug Super Metroid to any degree, this will feel familiar and enjoyable. Combat and exploration feel very similar to the title, offering many cosmic nooks and crannies to fight and meander through. Enemies come with a fair amount of gross variety, giving you many different bloody things to shoot. There’s also a pile of different power-ups and weapons to be found, encouraging you to explore to better arm yourself against the horrors ahead.
That the game gives you a different route each time adds a lot more to the exploration as well. While I enjoy always knowing my way through a familiar game, the array of different sickening places the game can takes you to means it’s always a new journey with different stuff to find. That and its more horror-themed monsters make for a chilling battle against an unsettling alien invasion, one that’s well worth checking out from what we’ve played so far.
A Robot Named Fight! is available now on the Nintendo Switch and Steam.
