Innkeeper has you taking on many roles. You’ll oversee an inn that is charged with providing a clean room and non-burnt food (unless a particular guest rubs you the wrong way).
Even in this early stage of development, Innkeeper still shows it’s a contender in the simulation and management genre.
After completing a short tutorial stage and creating a unique character, you will be thrust into your first hectic day on the job. In this demo, you will be able to plant and tend to crops in the fertile soil of you backyard. You’ll want to gather the veggies you grow and replant some of your crop yield to keep nature’s bounty coming. If you’d like to take a break from sweating in the fields, equip your handy fishing rod and enjoy nature while reeling in a few tasty sea creatures. Either way, you need to be gathering food for meals, which is just one part of your job.
Having a ton of food for your hungry guests is vital (but don’t hold onto some too long or it’ll go bad). Luckily, you can prepare a menu for them to choose from to satisfy their appetites. You’ll be able to offer five different dishes that use two ingredients (perhaps a side of spud for your salmon).
Once you’ve set up your menu, you’ll have to check what your guests want from it and cook it up. The cooking process is simple: throw the food on the grill and pull it off with an OK rating by waiting the appropriate amount of time. No one wants to eat a pile of ash. Deliver your masterpiece to the appropriate guest and you may be rewarded with a tip. A happy guest with a full belly may even want to stay the night.
To keep your guest from being repulsed by your cleanliness (or lack thereof), make sure to keep those rooms tidy and free of debris with your trusty broom. A quick sweep of dust and cobwebs works wonders. You can even grab and keep spiders, rats, and dust bunnies if you don’t have the heart to ‘dispose’ of them.
Innkeeper is worth a try for fans of lighthearted simulation games. With its adorable style and high-level design, Innkeeper steps from the crowd of simulation. It’s very clear how much effort went into just the demo, and I, for one, am excited for the full release.
