Action game Metal Unit wants you to use all of the weapons at your disposal whenever you need to, seamlessly using whatever tools you have to decimate your machine enemies.
Earth usually only faces trouble from one sinister force, but in Metal Unit, you’ve got problems on all sides. Monsters are creeping up from the ground. Aliens are landing from the skies. Oh yeah, and your sister has betrayed you on your home turf, so there really is all kinds of danger to go around. But you’ve got a neat little robot suit that you can use. That should really balance things out, right?
Joanna, the suit’s pilot, isn’t the type to collect weapons just for the need to possess them, thankfully. You can have several weapons on the go at once with her, easily chaining together melee and ranged attacks to mow down your many enemies at once. With an added dash, the game encourages an aggressive attack style that uses all of the tools you have on hand to keep up that offensive pressure. This makes for some compelling play as you see how long far you can go without missing.
But you’ll miss eventually. Likely get stomped in the process, finding yourself back at the start after dying. Your existing weapons get turned into Research Points, which you can use to unlock new skills and goodies for your next attempt. You’re always making progress even in death, so keep up the fight. Even if you do fall, chaining attacks feels so fluid that it’s hard not to get right back to it.
Metal Unit is available now on Steam Early Access.
