Pixel Soldier will have you blasting loads of enemies as you keep swapping where you stand, shooting your slimy form across the floor, walls, and ceiling as you rotate the room to get a better vantage point.
In this fast-paced shooter, you play as a small slime creature that’s stuck inside a box with some nasty enemies. You’re not just limited to standing on the floor in Pixel Soldiers, as you can dash to the walls and ceiling, reorienting the room.
Your enemies can be shot with whatever weapon you have, and some can also be dashed through. Sometimes, machines appear on the floor, casting bubbles around the flying enemies. These machines can be shot to death, however, the bubbles must be dashed through to be removed.
Don’t like the gun you have? You can change weapons between the various levels, grabbing machine guns, guns that spray bullets, and bomb guns to keep yourself alive. You’ll want a comfortable weapon, too, because as you move through the various levels, you will start to take on bosses and need to dash around faster to stay alive. You get a bit of help, too, as at the end of some levels, you can destroy some heart bugs, gaining their life to add to your health.
Originally a game developed GameBoy Jam 5, but now polished up and being showcased at events like Pocket Gamer Connects London, Pixel Soldier has come quite far in development. There is just something super fun about playing through this very intense game.
Pixel Soldier currently has a demo available on Itch.io, and is planning on coming to mobile as well.
