The Doll Shop is a story-driven point and click adventure game that overall feels rather creepy.
You play a middle aged man who repairs dolls for a living in a very small, quiet town. Each day, you work and explore the town, living your very normal and not-at-all strange life. Dolls seem to be your obsession. You take pride in fixing them, bringing life to these precious items that others have broken or that have gotten worn down.
There are a variety of tolls that you use to fix your dolls, from paints for their lips, glue for their cracks, to sandpaper for getting rid of rough edges. This skill and craft is one your father did before you, and one you do now.
In such a small town, there is not much else that you really can fill your time with. You can go to the store to see if your packages are there, meditate at the shrine, or eat at your favorite ramen place to fill your hours. Everything is pretty normal until an old classmate comes back to your small village.
She seems to find your work a bit… scary. Creepy, even. Between your collection of carefully-pinned butterflies (which you order alive and get to know before killing and pinning) and your obsession with these human-like dolls, you seem to be putting up a bunch of red flags. You haven’t been sleeping well lately – ever since that young girl went missing in the summer, actually. And you keep finding doll shards around the town.
What’s going on with you? You seem to be acting erratically at times. Bits of conversation are up to you, and drastically change what is going on, so be careful what path you take.
The Doll Shop is a wonderfully horrifying adventure game with a bunch of different endings which ultimately can unlock more bonus content if you explore them all. And maybe you will. Who knows what is lurking in the butterfly room?
