Coda has you telling your life story to the ferryman of the dead, with time moving forward every time you close your (actual) eyes.
You have boarded a ship in the afterlife, and the Ferryman aboard has asked you to regale them with the story of your life in order to reach your final destination. This past will then play out before you, but every time you blink your eyes, time will accelerate, rushing your story to its conclusion. On top of this, are you really sure that you fully understand the weight of your own story? That you haven’t pushed anything aside that you might prefer to forget?
Coda looks to explore our feelings of who we want to be and who we end up becoming, the expectations we place on ourselves in that process of trying to become the person we imagine, and what it feels like when we cannot become that person. It’s an attempt to get us to examine our lives and the things we place importance on, and perhaps act as a means of freeing us from the day-to-day concerns that might not matter all that much at the end of our lives.
It’s blinking mechanic also seems to tie into holding onto a precious moment in memory, only to find that moment passed and our lives returned to what they once were. Those moments we treasure forever, yet at that time seem to slip through our fingers as time ticks on. Coda looks like it will be a compelling look at our lives and what we hold onto within them, and I’m very excited to know more.
Coda is currently in development, but in the meantime, you can add it to your Steam Wishlist.
