Balloonbound is a wonderful, silly local multiplayer where you and your friend are hanging on to your own balloons, hoping to pop the other player’s balloon and forcing them out of a sky.
You and another player each start off with one balloon. You are floating around the sky with this, throwing paper airplanes at your opponent. Picking the direction and holding down will blast your paper planes out further, and once you have hit your enemies balloon, it will pop, sending them plummeting towards the ground.
There is more to throw than just paper airplanes, as you can also grab crates and take whatever bonuses are inside. Things like hair dryers blow the other player’s balloon away, while guns and water blasters can pop the balloon more efficiently. Bombs hang from balloons, looking to be kicked into your opponent or waiting for you to mistakenly bumped into them, exploding.
Other balloons are moving through the air, which you can collect to add another balloon to your collection and another chance to stay afloat. If you do happen to fly off the screen for too long, your balloon will automatically pop, and you will fall towards the ground.
Between the floaty movement and the silliness of naked people throwing paper planes, Balloonbound is an entertaining game. I recently played a demo at Game Anglia, and found my time with it to be so much fun. I can’t wait to see where the game goes.
Balloonbound is looking to be released in 2019.
