Moving Out tasks four folks with moving out as quickly as possible, resulting in some delightful mayhem as you do anything you can to get that furniture onto the truck.
It is hard to capture the hatred I feel for moving with words, but somehow, this game has turned it into an utterly charming time (sort of how Overcooked turned my miserable experiences with cooking into a fun multiplayer game). In it, you and a few multiplayer buddies have to grab all of the important furniture in a house and fling it onto a moving truck. How you do that is up to you, so if you need to break a few windows or bash down some walls to do things quickly, that’s just how it has to go down.
This makes for a silly scramble as people rush all over the house to grab things. Snag a chair and leap through a window to get outside. Break down that door as you and a pal lug a couch. It’s wonderful chaos that I want to see happen in real life some time, but this will have to do in the meantime. While this might sound simple, mechanics are in place that need you to work together for larger objects, and their are systems to heave things in tandem should throwing furniture make for a better plan.
These mechanics might not seem to add much, but as I saw in the Moving Out demo at PAX East, they can make for a lot of ridiculous situations. You won’t just be moving furniture in houses, as the game uses various stages, like crossing rivers on crocodiles and logs, or sneaking through traffic, that add challenge and more potential for silly situations that only add to the absurd humor of it all. This mixture of silly stages, bulky furniture, and absurd movers make for the kind of laugh-out-loud multiplayer game that seems like it would be a blast at your next party.
Moving Out is currently in development, but in the meantime, you can add it to your Steam Wishlist.
