Wide Ocean Big Jacket follows an aunt and uncle taking their niece and her boyfriend on a camping trip, providing silly and touching times as you roast hot dogs.
Four playable family members are going on this trip out to the woods, and you’ll be taking part in nature walks, warming marshmallows on a stick, and telling ghosts stories. Hopefully everything goes well for you as you wander the area and enjoy the company of your loved ones, as surely nothing will go wrong at all on a family trip. No sir.
For the two middle school kids in the group, the adventures of Wide Ocean Big Jacket are their first taste in the freedom that will come from adulthood. For the aunt and uncle, they might feel something different about themselves after taking on the role of guiding some young folks for a few days. Many different emotions are stirred up on this camping trip for everyone as their minds wander in this relaxing space. And as they’re forced to deal with family members in close proximity when you cannot escape one another easily, which always resulted in some interesting times when I was on a trip with my relatives.
Wide Ocean Big Jacket is heartwarming and intimate, following this family through times that are utterly silly and deeply meaningful to those who are just beginning to feel some things for the first time. Plus, it’s nice to laugh at someone else’s family trip instead of the mayhem that often comes from our own.
Wide Ocean Big Jacket is available now on the Nintendo Switch, itch.io, and Steam.
