In Young Souls, you play two young individuals who are taking on strange dungeons and massive monsters to save the people of their town. Even if those people aren’t exactly kind to them.
Two siblings, who feel like they don’t belong in the world they live in, hold a secret that will save the people who don’t understand them. They are regularly fighting against a bunch of huge monsters that are trying to make their way into the world. No one knows about the battles they are taking on, all for the good of the town.
Before going into the various dungeons and battles, you are able to customize the items that each character is holding (because you can swap between characters in single player, or have both characters run by a player in co-op). Through picking weapons, shields, and potions, you will have different ways to play.
Once you are happy with your two characters, you can jump into the portal, fighting your way through a massive world of monsters. In the style of a side scroller, you will move forward, entering rooms where monsters will spawn in. You must then attack, dodge, and parry your way through them, taking out the entire room, before moving to the next. Once you have made it through the rooms full of monsters, you’ll need to take on massive bosses.
With the variety of weapons, you will find there is always new ways to take on the enemies. A grappling hook allows you to pull yourself to them, before hitting them with your sword – this was my favorite way to play when I checked out the demo at The Mix. This variety of combat styles, as well as the beautiful visuals, made for some great beat ’em up action.
Young Souls is currently in development, but you can follow its creation on the game’s site.
